Thusly the main bodies of Surly's front and rear racks are made from tubular CroMoly steel with stainless hardware. This means you can probably find someone out there that can torch it back into one piece in the rare instance things go south. The front Rack is height adjustable and provides either a low or high pannier mounting position which can be handy depending on terrain. When the ground gets rough keep your gear high and dry. When the path is smooth and easy you can load things low and keep everything balanced and stable with the platform above the wheel providing yet more space for more stuff. It’s worth mentioning the Front Rack hardware has been redesigned to be simpler to attach and more compatible with things like disc calipers and fenders. Surly have also made attachment plates specifically for our Uni-Crown forks for yet more fork compatibility. This simpler design has fewer moving parts and costs less to manufacture ergo costs less for you to purchase. The Surly front rack WILL work with disc brakes on our Troll Ogre and Disc Trucker frames. It may take a bit of work to get clearance around the front caliper since the many different calipers out there are many different shapes. The new attachment plates will limit any DIY ingenuity you might need but if you need to throw a washer or three behind the lower left bolt where the plate attaches to the fork dropout that’s not a big deal. This Stem was born out of rider’s demands for precision and for those moments when you have to be inch-perfect. Taking design elements from our World Cup-winning Direct Mount MK3 Stem and splicing these with our critically acclaimed Enduro MK2 Stem. We developed the Stem specifically with Pro’s and Bro’s alike. It was obvious we all live for the same challenge of pushing our own limits. As riders we want a Stem that inspires confidence to change lines through the middle of a rock garden like it’s no big deal or slap the inside of a turn and translate all your weight to front-wheel traction. Providing ear to ear grins and saying to your mates at the bottom of a trail “Did you see that?”. From the start of the design process it became clear that we wanted extra rigidity. To yield this we would need to make the Stem using a forging process - a new thing for us. The result of which allowed us to achieve a more intricate shape than machining alone. It involves applying a huge amount of force to redirect the grain flow of the material. As a result this gives superior strength fatigue and impact resistance. Another area where we made a significant improvement in rigidity was by increasing the clamping surface area on the steerer tube. We’ve vastly increased this to give a stout rock-solid feel and as close to the MK3 Direct Mount Stem as we could. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:Stan's Yellow Tape is designed to work with tubeless-ready rims and wheels. If you'll be inflating your tyres to 45psi or less one layer of yellow tape in the bed of your rim is all you need for most rims. For road tubeless and similar tyres that require more than 45psi of pressure a double wrap of tape is required. WHAT IF I HAVE AN OLDER RIM?The BST Bead Socket Technology profile developed by Stan's NoTubes was a departure from traditional bicycle rim design and its core concept is the basis for the vast majority of 'tubeless-ready' rims and wheels on the market today. Stan's Yellow Rim Tape is not by itself a tubeless conversion for older traditional non-'tubeless-ready' rims. These older rims require the use of a Stan’s NoTubes Rim Strip now discontinued to re-shape the rim bed to achieve a safe secure tubeless setup. While we would recommend considering a new tubeless-ready wheelset in place of a rim strip conversion Stan's Rim Strips and kits may still be available at your local bike shop and can be used to convert vintage bikes with older non-tubeless-ready rims. Using only Yellow Rim Tape and Stan’s NoTubes sealant on a non-tubeless-ready rim can result in not only difficult inflation during set-up but catastrophic 'burping' issues while riding.
